Following an urgent appeal last month Littlehampton Bonfire Society have appointed a new secretary and are now proceeding with the planning for their 65th Traditional Bonfire Night on 28th October. Explained society chairman, Allen Alderton,
‘We are delighted to welcome Joan Newman as our new secretary and are very grateful to her for answering our appeal. We are however still urgently in need of more people to join the society and get involved in the preparations for the event throughout the year. In particular we need more people to help with manual tasks such as making the torches and building the bonfire, as well as raising the funds needed to stage Bonfire Night. Some new volunteers have come forward to help make the torches but we would like to hear from more, and we still desperately need help during the week preceding the event from volunteers who are physically capable of building the bonfire.
We hope that local residents and businesses will now support us as much as possible in order that we can stage bonfire celebrations for the town to be proud of and raise as much as possible for the local charities and good causes which benefit from the street collections at the event.’
Information on how to join the society and to get involved with Bonfire Night in other ways is now available on the society’s website, www.littlehamptonbonfiresociety.co.uk
